Learn How To Take Care Of Your Silk Scarf

If you wish to have your desired outfit or accessories for a long time, you should be familiar with how to properly take care of them. You may have at least one silk scarf in your cupboard and you are unsure how to take care for it. We are here to help out.

Scarves are one of the most helpful and gorgeous accessories someone can have. Sometimes, a scarf is all you require to build a new look for your outfit. It can refresh an outfit or just make a number of blouses or shirts look brand new and stunning every time you match it with them. So, it is very essential to know how to store up and clean it so they last for a long time.

First of all, if you want your silk scarf to look good every time you decide to put it on, you have to store it properly. Do not leave it wrinkled somewhere in a corner or in the pocket of your coat. This will ruin the fabric and you will have to iron it every time. Save yourself some time and prevent that from happening. Install a few wide hooks in the closet or just hang the scarves on a regular hanger, leaving the fabric to freely hang down, so the line of the fabric stays intact.

The next thing is washing the scarf. Under no circumstances, leave it in the washer or the drier. This will break the fabric, the colours are likely to run and ultimately you will destroy the beautiful accessory. You can always bring the scarf to the dry cleaners, but keep in mind that not every dry cleaner knows how to clean it properly and may damage it. So it is better if you wash it by hand yourself. Try a little corner to see if the colours will run. Put a few drops of baby shampoo or Woolite in warm water and soak the scarf for a few minutes. If you only have a little spot to clean, just damp a cloth and try to wash the spot only. After you have soaked the scarf, leave it under running cold water. This will eliminate the soap residue. After that put the wet scarf on a dry towel and put another dry one on top. Try to rub it gently so you get the excess water out. Then leave the scarf lying flat so it dries off completely. If you want to iron the scarf, do not wait until it completely dry. Iron it when it is slightly damp – it is easier to get the crinkles straightened without damaging the fabric.
